We talked about business, marketing and everything that evolves around it in our last episodes. Today, we will speak with Samir Gohil of SPC Global about Better Food For the Future. They bring food all over the world to whoever needs it.
What sparked SPC to start this food business, and is competition in this space?
There is competition in this niche, but before SPC acquired the goodwill company, they were already in the cuisine business. They were already supplying ready meals to the supermarkets. They already have contracts with some New South Wales governments to provide meals to public hospitals. While providing service to the healthcare and ready meal industry, they saw the need in people in aged care homes and NDIs.
They see an opportunity to offer prepared meals to these vulnerable communities and to be able to deliver frozen meals home nationally. When they started, there was a wide gap in the market at that time though today's market is more competitive. This is a phenomenal business as it provides tremendous help to those people who are not skilled in cooking or have challenges in completing the task. SPC is end-to-end, meaning they manufacture all their meals in any place. The facility in Sydney delivers 60,000 meals a day.
How did the brand offering (food meals) affect the brand positioning, and how did people respond to it?
People were responding positively to the transition of the brand. Like a restaurant, customers return if the food and service are good. We provide quality, good-tasting meals which are diverse. We also made sure that this was on a seasonal basis. Whatever is needed will be placed on our menu. Customers have 70-80 options on the menu which should keep them interested for some time.
This ranges from veggies, dairy, and even vegan options to gluten-free. SPC provide what is needed from the standard diets and ensures that the main dietary requirements are found in their meals. Special diets such as gluten-free, veggie or keto can be trickier to produce on a mass basis.
How does the system that you are using support customer experience?
SPC does not own the trucks they use to distribute the orders but has partner companies from all of the states in Australia. The frozen trucks bring all the ordered meals to all points of Australia, which are then passed on to home delivery carrier partners. These contracted partners deliver them to individual homes that order their specific meals from the menu.
Logistics can be complicated, but they can maintain quality thanks to their dependable partners. However, there are instances where it is impossible to deliver, such as during flooding—having a very reliable back-end system, with the help of Ucidity and HubSpot as their CRM, allowed them to manage and navigate the complexities of the government regulations.
A noble business that benefits many is a perfect kind of business. Many people are challenged in keeping their homes or just kitchens due to limitations on skills in cooking or just plainly incapable of doing so because of health conditions or old age. Frozen meals that are both flavorful and healthy are an option beneficially given to these individuals.
