What does business is like tennis mean? Most businesses don’t run like a sports team. They don’t create the same level of team pride, passion, efficiency, comradery and fandom like you may see for a football team.
The brands are strong, the organisations are focused, roles are niched, and team development is strategic.
So how does business relate to tennis? The rules are simple. Everyone is on a level playing field, you have two shots to serve the ball into the corresponding square for the game to start. If you don’t get the ball into that square, you lose a point, immediately you start losing.
In business, it’s all about your positioning. If you don’t pitch your brand right, to the right people and you are outside of the square where your target market sits, immediately you’re going to start losing money. That’s the tennis of business.
Just like in tennis, you’ve got to practice, serve to the right place, with the right timing, to the right people. Don’t take a shot gun approach, be targeted.
So take a look at your business and ask yourself:
- Who am I speaking to?
- Where can I connect with them?
- Is my messaging right?
- Why would they be interested?
- Does this strike where it matters most to them?
- Is this a game winning content?
- What will keep them engaged in the game?
If you have a look at your brand from the customers perspective, keep in mind the sporting analogies, align your team and target to win over the crowd.
