Bite-sized Branding Episode 78 - Grow Through Marketing: A Living My Way Story

Content Marketing |  2 min read

For this episode, we are joined by Joanna Spencer, Executive Manager of Living My Way, a not-for-profit disability support provider based in NSW. Living My Way helps individuals live a self-directed life and have different services such as:

  • Support Work Services
  • Support Coordination
  • Occupational Therapy Services
  • NDIS Plan Management

This episode talks about The Living My Way Team’s journey, some of its challenges, and how Jo and her team got past the hurdles.

As in charge of overall Marketing at Living My Way, Jo ensures that her strategies are very personal. What their team has found effective is brand awareness through storytelling. Everyone loves stories about recovery, inspiration, faith and many more. Storytelling has been passed on from generation to generation and is still effective today.

How Jo’s team does that is instead of making sales-focused collaterals for Marketing, they make material that involves a member story. The goal is to encourage and give hope to differently-abled people to live a self-directed life they can control.

Aside from their uniqueness and how they use a very niche-based Marketing strategy, here are some of the things Jo and the Dynamic Duo talk about in this episode:

  • Building relationships is the core of their strategy
    • Their marketing isn’t about clever marketing punchlines and strategies, but it’s about sharing their Member’s stories
    • Storytelling works best
  • How technology plays a big part in running the business
    • 99.9% of their Members join through their website and electronically signing documents.
  • How they deal with the constantly changing NDIS policies
    • They re-aligned their structure
    • They have to be ten steps ahead of NDIS
  • Why they decided to capitalise on using their Member’s stories to bring their word out to the world
    • Living My Way has 422 Members
  • The competition is tough
    • Possibly close to 30 providers in one suburb, with each one having different services.

Watch this episode and find out what Joanna wants to change in her strategies in an ideal scenario of having an unlimited marketing budget.
