Bite-sized Branding Episode 60 - The Evolving World of Print

Content Marketing |  3 min read

During our past episodes, we discussed marketing and promotions. We looked at the fast-paced online methods as well as traditional ways. In today's episode, we will discuss "The Evolving World of Print" with two special guests, Andrew Lewy of Forest Printing and Janet Thorpe of Cloud Print. We will talk about how printing has evolved along with modern technology.

How is print keeping relevant and evolving in this digital age?

Over the years, there has been a significant decrease in some types of prints. Ten to thirty years ago, news and all other stories were being told through paper printing as this is the only way to get everything across. With the new-found technology and the internet, a considerable change took place. But this level of decrease has levelled and is no longer going down lower.

An interesting aspect, especially with the after-effects of COVID, is that people encounter online fatigue. While it was pretty exciting at first that you have everything accessible on the internet, it became overwhelming that having something that you can actually touch changes your perspective. This is how most people in business look at things. Instead of the usual webinars, they search for something that would be out of the new norm and set them apart from the rest.

Is there still a market for offset printing? Where do digital and offset printing sits in the market now?

Yes, there is still an offset market, especially for the big signage and billboards. There isn't much going on for report printings and such, but a couple is still being made. Some items are done that are used during conferences or an exhibition. People want to be pleased visually, and making these signages bigger is what most brands and companies prefer.

The challenges in earlier years when colours were limited, even in digital printing, are now resolved. A good printing manager can come up with any colour their client needs for their brand.

How are the people when it comes to turnaround time?

As per Jane Thorpe, customers are becoming worse since they ask instantaneously for the output. A good printing team wouldn't want to rush a project. There is also a chain of command that they need to follow, which is why educating customers must reach a better understanding. Aside from designs, they need to work on colours and materials.

All these need to be individually approved before they can give a turnaround. Some customers require outputs within a day or sometimes hours, but that will not create a good outcome. But customers who have been with your company for some time begin to learn your style and vice-versa. It wouldn't be a struggle to provide service to them since they already know your timeframe. There will always be times when printing companies must be innovative to offer them on time.

The world of print will continue to evolve but will not be disappearing any time soon. Better results are produced with the help of newer technology. There will be projects and activities requiring print services, and with more modern methods and materials, everyone can expect a much better experience.
